A new award, in honour of the Len Lye Foundation Director and artist Evan Webb (1952-2023),
will continue Evan’s contribution to the research and restoration of the work of artist
Len Lye (1901-1980).

Open to any researcher, the award will grant $1500 annually for the best original contribution to Lye scholarship.

Research can be undertaken in categories spanning an unpublished research essay on an aspect of Lye’s work, ideas or aesthetics; an unpublished research essay building knowledge of Lye’s life and career; a proposal for research in the Len Lye Archive; or an engineering design or research proposal that contributes to the restoration or building of a Len Lye sculpture.

The length of the outcome is not a key factor – the Foundation are looking for soundly-based, original work.

Submissions are due by the end of August each year, with the result announced in October, selected by a committee of the Len Lye Foundation, who have established and will run the award.

Applications and enquiries can be made to Roger Horrocks, Len Lye Foundation member and the award coordinator on behalf of the Foundation, to r.horrocks@xtra.co.nz.

Postal submissions, where necessary, can be made to the Len Lye Foundation.
