The Govett-Brewster team congratulates all the finalists in the 2023 Walters Prize, and in particular acknowledges two of the finalists - Ana Iti and Brett Graham - who we have worked closely with over recent years.

Both artists have presented remarkable works in our spaces over the last couple of years – Ana Iti's work The woman whose back was a whetstone was part of the group exhibition Swallowing Geography curated by Megan Tamati-Quennell, and Brett Graham’s intensely powerful exhibition Tai Moana Tai Tangata, curated by Dr Anna-Marie White, and the outcome of Brett’s 2019 residency in Ngāmotu supported by Creative New Zealand.

Working with artists to realise such significant projects and stimulate such important conversations is at the heart of what we do, and it remains a privilege to be able to do it.
