Dr. Ruakere Hond talks about his role as an advocate for the revitalisation of Te Reo o Taranaki (the indigenous language of Taranaki).
Join Dr Ruakere Hond (Taranaki/Ngāti Ruanui/Te Ati Awa) as he talks about his role as an advocate for the revitalisation of Taranaki's local form of Maori language.
With WharehokaSmith’s wall painting Kureitanga II IV as a backdrop, Dr Hond will talk to his experience as a long-time kaiako (teacher) with Te Ataarangi, a community-based Māori language learning system developed 30 years ago, and as a prominent member of Te Reo o Taranaki Charitable Trust.
Dr Hond was instrumental in developing the Trust's language revitalisation strategy. He is a former commissioner of Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori (the Māori Language Commission) and has recently been appointed to Te Mātāwai (the Statutory Maori language leadership body).
Dr Hond will explain new developments for Maori language and what they may offer Taranaki
