A young man returns to an ancient way of life in this contemplative documentary about a family farm high in the mountains of Austria

Heinrich Wanner (81) has been operating a mountain farm in Tyrol for decades. The childless man lives alone in an over 600-year-old building and worries that after ten generations, there will be no one to take over his farm. In the end, he hands over his property to 20-year-old Hannes Gastl. The young man embraces this task with inquisitiveness and respect. Der Bauer Bleibst Du (You Remain the Farmer) is a calm, sensitive and touching documentary about a rural culture that is perhaps not entirely disappearing.

In German with English subtitles. Germany/Austria, 2013, Colour, 104 min., Rating Exempt. Dir. Benedikt Kuby
