WHY VISIT?

The Govett-Brewster Art Gallery is a pathfinder, an innovator and a catalyst for contemporary art and ideas. The Govett-Brewster offers a responsive, accessible, relevant and stimulating hub for an open exchange of ideas and engagements with the art and cultures of today.

The Govett-Brewster has had a significant increase in visitor numbers over the past several years and it now has the highest visitation of any stand-alone art gallery outside the four metropolitan centres.

EXHIBITIONS, EVENTS AND PROGRAMMES

A dynamic programme of exhibitions and events extend beyond the Govett-Brewster's walls, with the aim to foster the development and interpretation of contemporary art by developing new audiences. Exhibitions are complemented by events designed to enhance the Govett-Brewster experience for both the general public and school visitors. Events include discussions, floor talks, lectures, films, workshops and performances. Holiday programmes for children are especially popular and Young Visionaries, the Sunday art club for school children provides an opportunity for children to broaden their experience of art and the Govett-Brewster.

Presenting four major seasonal suites of exhibitions annually, the Govett-Brewster also hosts an important international Artist in Residence programme, focused on the development of exciting new projects. The exhibitions are all supported by interpretive texts and relevant video, audio and reading material and education.

THE COLLECTIONS

The Govett-Brewster manages assets including a research library, the Len Lye Collection and Archive and an expanding, permanent collection of some 850 contemporary artworks.
