The Govett-Brewster Art Gallery is a dimension of the New Plymouth District Council. Vacancies are advertised via the council website and regularly via www.taranaki.co.nz, www.seek.com and various newspapers and publications. INTERNSHIPS

The Govett-Brewster works in partnership with New Zealand and Australian tertiary museums studies education providers, Te Papa’s National Services Te Paerangi and with Creative New Zealand to provide internships for promising young New Zealand professionals to develop work experience and on the job art museum skills. These opportunities are currently on a case by case basis. Learning and workplace outcomes are clearly identified and agreed and reports to providers are required.

To formalise any ongoing internship opportunities, the Govett-Brewster is seeking an enlightened sponsor or benefactor to support a programme to support two placements a year. Please contact us for more information if you are interested in supporting this future programme. It can also respond to international internship enquiries on a case by case basis. Country of origin internship funding is required to support such internships. 

An example of a recent successful project was a Len Lye Internship supported by Creative New Zealand under its Sector Investment Programme. In three months intern Paul Brobbell catalogued and rehoused 1,177 archive items, 80 individual books and published materials and 1,279 archive photographs. He extended his museum collection management skills into the art museum sector and effectively broadened his experience base for future work opportunities.
