SCHOOLS & TEACHERS

The Govett-Brewster Art Gallery offers a comprehensive educational programme that aims to inspire and educate participants of all ages. The Govett-Brewster receives a high number of school visits from pupils throughout Taranaki.

Class programmes are tailored to make use of the current exhibitions and fit with classroom learning objectives. The Govett-Brewster became an accredited Learning Experience Outside The Classroom (LEOTC) provider in 2003.

The programmes are created and led by Chris Barry, Rebecca Fawkner-Egli and kaiako Morgana Watson.

FIVE GREAT REASONS FOR SCHOOLS TO VISIT THE GOVETT-BREWSTER

1) We encourage students to participate, challenge and share their thoughts about contemporary art

2) We provide learning experiences that are friendly, student-centred and engaging

3) Support from the Ministry of Education enables the Govett-Brewster to offer a relevant programme with no charge to schools

4) We welcome your students with their diverse interests, listening to what they think and learning together

5) We tailor your visit to support your classroom's teaching and learning

PRESCHOOL

The Govett-Brewster's contemporary art exhibitions make great learning experiences for preschool children, especially interactive and kinesthetic art works. The Education Team is happy to help choose an appropriate exhibition to visit and welcomes teachers' and caregivers' enquiries.

PRIMARY CLASSES

The Govett-Brewster has an extensive primary education programme that aims to enchant, inspire and educate students. Primary programmes are created and led by the Education Team to utilise the Govett-Brewster environment and current exhibitions.

SECONDARY / TERTIARY CLASSES

A Govett-Brewster programme for students at secondary and tertiary levels can include elements of the art, photography and media studies curricula. A comprehensive range of topics relating to the current exhibitions is available within each of these areas. The Govett-Brewster's involvement in senior class visits can range from hands-on tuition to student worksheets.
